Samurai were the warrior class of feudal Japan. Samurai are known for their strict code of honour, discipline, loyalty and morality known as Bushido - "the way of the warrior". Emerging in the 10th century, they became the ruling military class by the 12th century and maintained significant influence until the Meiji Restoration in the late 19th century.
